Adjustment Disorders

An adjustment disorder is a stronger-than-expected reaction to a specific, identifiable change or stressor — a new supervisor, a route reassignment, a disciplinary action, or the sudden limitations of a new injury. It's distinct from PTSD in that there's no single traumatic event; instead, it's your system struggling to adapt to a real change in your circumstances.

What tends to trigger it

How it shows up

Getting it recognized as an OWCP-accepted condition

Because adjustment disorders are tied to a specific, dateable change, they're often more straightforward to document than cumulative stress claims — the evaluation focuses on establishing the timeline between the workplace change and the onset of your symptoms.

If something specific changed at work and you haven't felt like yourself since, that timeline is exactly what an evaluation is designed to document.

Treatment through our practice

Telehealth counseling is typically shorter-term and focused on building coping strategies for the specific change you're adjusting to, though it can extend longer if symptoms persist. Billed directly through OWCP once your condition is accepted.
